I love, love, love Laura Numeroff!
I know right?!

She is just such a clever lady...

she is one of my literary heroes!
Of course, one of my favorites is:

For the next few weeks,

I'll be reading her fabulous 

circle stories to my students.
Cool!

In honor of her wonderful books,

I am making this a working post 

where I'm going to continue to 
add to as I go along!

 My students really enjoyed doing this activity!
It was great for them to strengthen
their reading and cutting skills, 
and they LOVED that they could easily retell
the story to their families at home.

I actually ended up using these circle "puppets" for 

my students to use for retelling the story while using

the story sequence sheet.  They moved the "puppet" 

around the pictures as they retold the story.

CVC Words and/or practice their letter naming and
letter sounds depending on what they needed to work on.

How many cvc words can 
your students read in one minute?
I had my students use a button to mark
where they stopped each time,
so that they could see if they could beat their time.
I'm thinking giving everyone 1 small "cookie"
from Cookie Crisp cereal to move around
as a time marker may make it even more fun
for a special occassion.
(I just couldn't get to the store in time!)

How many alphabet letters can 
your students read in one minute?

After reading the letter names
as quickly as they can,
have your students go back and try
to read as many alphabet letter
SOUNDS in one minute!

it took me a while to make (long while), 
but I think the end result is well worth the time!

Also, my kids wanted actual bubble pictures 

added to the bubble bath bottle, 

so I changed that for everyone!

Here is a handwriting sheet I made
that has of some of my Kindergarten sight words.
I'm giving you the option of using print or modern manuscript.
My kids just  REALLY needed to work on their
handwriting skills, so at a teacher station they'll practice
these words using the correct letter formation on white boards
and then write the words on the sheet with the cute pictures.

If You Give A Cat A Cupcake

Cat And Cupcake Rhyming CVC Words "Craft"
 I made this last year, and my kids really liked 
"feeding" the cat each time they read
one of the words on the cupcake.
Just have your students color and cut
the cat and the cupcake out....
then they help the cat to read the words
on the cupcake and pretend to feed him a bite.

Cat wants to eat
a yummy, yummy treat.
Read all the words that rhyme,
so he can have cupcake time!
