I just LOVE Joy Cowley....what can I say?
I love me some Mrs. Wishy Washy.
Am I the only one?
..but I just want to squeeze
those chubby red cheeks!
Her work was around
when I started teaching
This week we are reading about
The Little Red Hen,
and I always like to throw in the book
The Little Yellow Chicken
by Joy Cowley.
I made some character cards,
a compare and contrast
double bubble graphic organizer,
and a Venn diagram.
Sweet butta!
You just made my life
a lot easier.
I actually made these things
for my own classroom use.....
.....but.....
yah?
I just thought that maybe.....
uh-huh?
..........possibly........
still with ya!
some other K teachers out there
may like for me to share.
Ya think?!
Am I right??????
Right as rain my friend!
The Little Yellow Chicken
(by Joy Cowley) Story Retelling Characters
I am actually going to put a hole punch
at the top of each of the cards,
add yarn, and make character necklaces
for my students to wear as we retell
the story.
You can also glue them
to the end of plastic rulers.
We use those with our puppet stage.
The length of the rulers help the kids to
stay hidden as they retell the story.
Ooh....very clever!
Somewhere Spielberg
is beyond impressed.

Hi Liz,
I went to your blog, and I discovered that you are in Australia! I have a confession to make....I LOVE looking at our blog stats and seeing all the different countries where people are reading our blog. I just find it so exciting. I know....I'm a total goof ball, but it's free entertainment for me!
Your comment made me smile tonight....just thought I'd let you know!
:) Regina
Yup, I am an Aussie girl! It's a beautiful country :) And I confess I love looking at blog stats too... a geeky part of me too that loves those cool graphs and maps!
I also suspect that your classroom might be one of the only American kindergarten that I have seen which has a home/play corner! They are the BEST way to teach vocab and social skills in my opinion and the stories that the kids makes up are freaking hilarious! So far this year I have set up a cafe, store, vet, postoffice and I am about to attempt to build a pirate ship out of huge cardboard boxes. :) Lots of fun!
The home/play corner extraordinaire is Angela's. She is all that and a bag of chips! (I think her saying fits her perfectly!) :)
I'm still working on posting my classroom pics. I didn't realize how much time and effort it takes in posting those! Plus it's a tad nerve-racking thinking that the world can see my classroom. Hmmmmmm.....do I REALLY want people to see all my SHTUFF?
By the way, your blog looks great!
I have to motivate myself! I think I can....I think I can...I think I can!
Stay posted....my classroom pics will be coming soon! (Well, I can't commit to when....but hopefully sometime between tomorrow and the end of time).
:) Regina
